Venus Retrograde in Scorpio: Love, Money, Intimacy & What Comes Back Around
Buckle up, buttercup. Venus is retrograde in Scorpio, and this transit is asking us to go beneath the surface.
Venus is the planet of love, relationships, beauty, pleasure, sensuality, money, art, values and self-worth. When Venus moves retrograde, these areas of life enter a period of review.
A retrograde doesn’t mean a planet literally begins moving backward. From our perspective on Earth, it appears to move backward through the zodiac. Astrologically, retrogrades invite us to revisit, reconsider, research, revise and sometimes return to situations we thought were finished.
And Venus is beginning this journey in Scorpio.
Scorpio deals with intimacy, sexuality, vulnerability, trust, power, secrets, shared resources, debt, taxes, inheritances, other people’s money and psychological patterns.
So this retrograde asks some important questions:
Why do you love the way you love?
Who do you trust with your body, heart, money and secrets?
What are you accepting because you’re afraid of losing someone?
Where have money and power become intertwined in your relationships?
What do you actually value now?
And perhaps most importantly:
What have you buried that is ready to come back to the surface?
Think Back to 2018
Take yourself back to October and November 2018, when Venus also retrograded through Scorpio and Libra.
What was happening with your relationships, finances, sexuality, self-esteem, appearance or creative life?
Who was in your life?
Who left?
What were you learning about love and money?
What were you discovering about yourself?
You are not necessarily going to repeat the exact events of 2018. You’re not the same person you were eight years ago. But similar themes may return, giving you an opportunity to respond differently this time.
Why Venus Is Uncomfortable Here
In traditional astrology, Venus is considered to be in detriment in Scorpio.
Venus rules Taurus and Libra. Taurus seeks stability, comfort, pleasure and security, while Libra seeks harmony, balance, beauty and partnership.
In Scorpio, Venus encounters the more complicated sides of love, desire and attachment.
Attraction can become magnetic. Jealousy, possessiveness, control, obsession or unresolved sexual dynamics may become more noticeable.
Past lovers or relationship wounds may resurface. Financial situations may require another look. Something you thought you had emotionally moved beyond may return to your thoughts, dreams or conversations.
But remember:
Someone returning does not automatically mean they belong in your future.
Sometimes people return because there is something left to understand—not because the relationship needs another chapter.
Don’t Confuse Intensity With Intimacy
This is an important distinction during this retrograde.
You can experience powerful chemistry with someone and still not be compatible.
Obsession is not intimacy.
Possessiveness is not devotion.
Sexual chemistry is not emotional safety.
Slow down enough to see who someone actually is.
I would be cautious about rushing into a brand-new relationship or making permanent relationship decisions under this energy. Observe. Ask questions. Watch patterns. Let people reveal themselves over time.
Review Before You Move
With additional retrograde energy coming, this is an excellent period for research and review.
If you don’t have to make an immediate concrete decision, give yourself room to gather more information.
Read the fine print. Research before signing. Ask another question. Check the numbers. Look at the history. Get another opinion when appropriate.
This doesn’t mean putting your entire life on hold because planets are retrograde. Sometimes decisions have deadlines.
But when you have the luxury of time, use it.
My phrase for this period is:
Review before you move.
Pluto in Aquarius Adds Another Layer
Scorpio’s traditional ruler is Mars, while its modern ruler is Pluto. Pluto is now moving through Aquarius, bringing communities, networks, friendships, technology, organizations and the collective into the conversation.
Look at your communities as carefully as you look at your romantic relationships.
Who has access to you?
Who benefits from your energy?
Where do you genuinely feel connected?
Where are you staying simply because you don’t want to lose access to the group?
Your values can change socially just as much as romantically.
Sexual Health, Reproductive Health & The Body
In traditional medical astrology, Scorpio is associated with the reproductive and eliminative areas of the body.
Use this as a reminder to pay attention to your physical health—not as a substitute for healthcare.
Stay current with screenings appropriate for your body, age and medical history. Depending on your individual circumstances and healthcare guidance, that may include cervical screening, STI testing, prostate screening or colorectal screening.
Sexual health is part of wellness. So are boundaries, knowing your status and feeling comfortable enough with your body to ask questions.
This can also be a period for examining shame surrounding sexuality and pleasure.
What were you taught about your body, sex and pleasure?
And which of those beliefs are actually yours?
Support Your Whole Body
As the seasons change, take care of your whole body.
Rest. Hydrate. Eat nourishing foods. Manage stress. Move your body. Support your immune health through everyday habits that work for you.
I’ve also been sharing teas, drinks and recipes through Sip • Eat • Heal, and my Immuni-Tea is available in the Marketplace.
Astrology may help us reflect on timing and themes, but we still have to care for the physical body we’re living in.
Venus Retrograde in Scorpio by Rising Sign
Read for your rising sign first. Your rising sign determines which Whole Sign house Scorpio occupies in your birth chart.
You can also read your Sun and Moon signs for additional reflection, but your rising sign gives us the clearest house-based picture of where this retrograde is taking place.
♈ Aries Rising — 8th House
Shared finances, debt, taxes, inheritances, loans, investments, insurance and resources shared with a partner may require review.
But this isn’t only about money. Your 8th house also governs intimacy, vulnerability, trust, sexuality, grief and emotional entanglements.
Who do you trust?
Who has access to you?
Are you financially or emotionally carrying someone who should be carrying themselves?
Old debts—financial or emotional—may need attention. Examine what you share, what you owe and what you’re finally ready to release.
♉ Taurus Rising — 7th House
Venus is your ruling planet, Taurus, and this retrograde activates your 7th house of relationships, marriage, committed partnerships, contracts and one-to-one connections.
Past partners could reappear physically or simply return to your thoughts. Existing relationships may require deeper conversations around trust, intimacy, money, jealousy, commitment or reciprocity.
Don’t automatically assume a relationship experiencing tension needs to end, and don’t automatically assume someone returning needs to stay.
Ask:
Does this relationship reflect who I am becoming—or only who I used to be?
♊ Gemini Rising — 6th House
Your 6th house of work, routines, health, habits, service and everyday responsibilities is under review.
Your routine may no longer support the person you’re becoming. You could reconsider a job, work environment, schedule, wellness practice or the amount of energy you’re giving everyone else.
Pay attention to burnout and the habits you keep promising yourself you’ll change.
You don’t necessarily need a dramatic transformation. Sometimes changing what you repeatedly do every day creates the biggest shift.
♋ Cancer Rising — 5th House
Your 5th house of romance, dating, pleasure, creativity, children and self-expression is activated.
Old romantic interests may resurface, or you may reconsider what you’re actually looking for when dating.
But this house isn’t only about romance.
Where did your joy go?
What did you used to create simply because you loved doing it?
What hobby did you abandon?
What makes you feel sexy, playful, creative and alive?
You may reconnect with a part of yourself that responsibility or emotional exhaustion pushed aside.
♌ Leo Rising — 4th House
Your 4th house of home, family, ancestry, parents, property and emotional foundations is under review.
Family patterns may become easier to recognize. You may revisit questions involving your home, living situation, family relationships or property.
Ask yourself what your family taught you about money, love, marriage, sex, privacy and survival.
You may realize you’re carrying something that started long before you.
Understanding where a pattern came from doesn’t mean you have to keep carrying it.
♍ Virgo Rising — 3rd House
Your 3rd house of communication, siblings, neighbors, learning, paperwork and information is activated.
Old conversations may return. Something you misunderstood could become clearer. Information you didn’t have before may surface.
Double-check paperwork, messages and important details.
This is also strong research energy. If you’ve wanted to study something, write, investigate, return to a class or revisit an unfinished project, use it.
Your curiosity may uncover something important.
♎ Libra Rising — 2nd House
Venus is your ruling planet, and she’s retrograding through your 2nd house of money, possessions, values, income and self-worth.
Review your finances.
Where is your money going?
What subscriptions are still coming out?
What are you buying because you genuinely value it—and what are you buying for validation, comfort or appearance?
You may also reconsider how you’re earning money.
But underneath the financial questions is a deeper one:
What do you believe you’re worth?
Your bank account and your worth are not the same thing.
♏ Scorpio Rising — 1st House
This retrograde is happening in your 1st house of identity, appearance, body and personal direction.
You may reconsider how you look, how you present yourself, who you are in relationships and what you actually desire.
You may feel pulled toward changing your appearance or personal style. Experiment if you want to, but you don’t have to rush into anything permanent.
More importantly, ask:
Who am I when I’m not performing for anyone else?
Relationships may act as mirrors, showing you aspects of yourself that deserve attention.
♐ Sagittarius Rising — 12th House
Your 12th house of the subconscious, dreams, solitude, endings, hidden matters and spirituality is activated.
Pay attention to dreams, memories that suddenly return and emotions that surface when you’re finally alone.
Something hidden may become visible—not necessarily because someone else exposes it, but because you’re finally willing to acknowledge it.
This is beautiful energy for journaling, spiritual reflection, therapy, ancestral exploration, meditation and releasing emotional baggage.
You don’t have to announce every transformation.
Some healing happens privately.
♑ Capricorn Rising — 11th House
Your 11th house of friendships, communities, organizations, social networks and long-term dreams is under review.
You may reconnect with old friends or communities while recognizing that other connections no longer align with where you’re headed.
Pay attention to reciprocity.
Who checks on you?
Who celebrates you?
Who only appears when they need something?
You may also reconsider a long-term dream. Something you once wanted may no longer matter—or an old goal you abandoned may suddenly feel important again.
♒ Aquarius Rising — 10th House
Your 10th house of career, reputation, leadership, visibility and public life is activated.
You may reconsider what success actually means to you. A former job, client, professional opportunity or career idea could resurface.
You may also become more aware of how you’re perceived publicly.
But don’t make every decision based on appearances.
Ask whether the career you’re building actually supports the life you want.
Sometimes climbing higher isn’t the goal. Sometimes you realize you’ve been climbing the wrong ladder.
♓ Pisces Rising — 9th House
Your 9th house of higher education, spirituality, belief systems, publishing, teaching, legal matters and long-distance travel is under review.
You may return to school, reconsider a course of study, revisit spiritual teachings or become fascinated with something you previously explored.
Beliefs inherited from family, religion, culture or past experiences may also come under examination.
You don’t have to believe something forever simply because you once believed it deeply.
Research. Read. Ask questions.
Give yourself permission to change your mind when new information changes your understanding.
Before You Plant the New Seed
All of this leads us toward the New Moon in Libra on October 10.
Before planting something new, consider what you’re bringing with you.
What relationship pattern needs to stay behind?
What financial habit needs to change?
What truth needs to be acknowledged?
What boundary needs to become stronger?
What part of your body needs more care?
What version of yourself are you finished performing?
You don’t have to have all the answers immediately.
Research. Review. Reflect.
Let information come to you. Let people reveal themselves. Let your own feelings become clearer.
Then decide what deserves to move forward with you.
