The Fall Equinox: When Light and Darkness Meet
September 22, 2026 • 8:05 PM ET
There is something sacred about the moment the seasons turn.
On September 22, we welcome the Fall Equinox, the threshold between summer and autumn and a beautiful reminder that nature does not remain in one season forever—and neither do we.
The word equinox comes from Latin words associated with equal night. Around the equinox, day and night come close to equal length as the Sun crosses the celestial equator. From here, those of us in the Northern Hemisphere begin our gradual journey toward longer nights, cooler temperatures, falling leaves, and the inward season of the year.
And astrologically, this transition carries another meaning:
The Fall Equinox marks the Sun’s entrance into Libra.
From Virgo’s Harvest to Libra’s Balance
Virgo season asked us to sort, prepare, organize, tend to our bodies, and pay attention to what needed improvement.
Now Libra asks:
Is your life actually balanced?
Libra is symbolized by the scales and is associated with harmony, relationships, reciprocity, beauty, fairness, and equilibrium.
But balance doesn’t necessarily mean giving everything equal amounts of your time.
Sometimes balance means recognizing that something has been receiving far more of you than it should.
Sometimes it means resting.
Sometimes it means saying no.
Sometimes it means allowing yourself to receive instead of constantly being the person who gives.
And sometimes balance requires admitting that something simply doesn’t fit the season you’re entering.
Your Body Knows the Season Is Changing
Our ancestors didn’t need a calendar notification telling them autumn had arrived.
They could see it.
They could feel it.
The sunlight shifted. Temperatures changed. Foods changed. Plants changed. Harvests were gathered and preparations for winter began.
We still live inside those natural rhythms, even when modern life encourages us to ignore them.
Fall can be an invitation to begin slowing down.
That doesn’t mean becoming inactive. It means becoming more intentional about where your energy goes.
Think warming meals, seasonal produce, soups, roasted vegetables, herbal teas, earlier evenings, nourishing routines, and creating a home environment that feels comforting as the days grow shorter.
Your wellness practices can change with the season because you are part of nature—not separate from it.
An Equinox Check-In
Before rushing into another season, give yourself a moment to acknowledge the one you’re leaving.
Ask yourself:
What did I grow this summer?
What am I harvesting now?
Where has my life become unbalanced?
What am I carrying that doesn’t need to come into fall with me?
Where do I need more beauty, peace, pleasure, or connection?
What deserves more of my attention during this next season?
You don’t need to have every answer tonight.
Sometimes simply asking the question begins the shift.
A Simple Fall Equinox Ritual
Make yourself a warm cup of tea.
Light a candle.
Open your journal.
Divide a page into two sections.
On one side, write:
I am grateful to harvest…
On the other:
I am ready to release…
Let yourself recognize both.
We often focus so heavily on what needs fixing that we forget to acknowledge what actually grew.
Celebrate the harvest, too.
Welcome to Fall 🍂
The equinox reminds us that light and darkness belong to the same cycle.
There are seasons for blooming and seasons for releasing.
Seasons for movement and seasons for rest.
Seasons for doing and seasons for simply being.
As we enter autumn and Libra season, consider what balance could look like—not as perfection, but as a relationship between you, your body, your environment, your relationships, and the life you’re creating.
Read the Stars • Heal the Body • Nourish the Soul.
Welcome to fall. 🍂✨
